Tens of thousands of spectators, 2,000 guests and many protesters have gathered around Westminster Abbey in London, where Charles III is crowned today with pomp and show.
The British capital is buzzing with anticipation ahead of the coronation of Charles III – the man who has waited seven decades to become king. Thousands of people from all over the world have spent the night along The Mall parade street to make sure they catch a glimpse of the pompous procession.
The many guests who are invited to take part in the festivities include Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustaf and Crown Princess Victoria – who sit at the front of the church.
Charles and his wife Camilla traveled in a golden carriage to Westminster Abbey where around two thousand guests now attend.
The coronation ceremony has roots hundreds of years back in time. During the ceremony, King Charles received, among other things, the royal regalia, including two spiers and the national apple, and took the royal oath.
He was then anointed on his head, chest and hands with an oil made from olives from the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem.
The coronation itself literally happened when the Archbishop of Canterbury placed the Crown of St. Edward on Charles’ head.
After the king’s coronation, a similar ceremony took place for Queen Camilla, but on a smaller scale.
The ceremony takes place between 12.00 and 14.00 – then the cortege goes back to Buckingham Palace where the royal family will meet the British people from the balcony.
Tv4 will show the entire ceremony ending at 3:30 p.m. – with presenters Sofia Geite, Petra Nordlund Mcgahan and Tomas Kvarnkullen on site in London.
