English Football Association confirmed on Wednesday that Thomas Tuchel has been chosen as the new head coach of the England national football team.

Tuchel signed the contract on Tuesday last week. However, it was decided to announce the agreement only now, so that distractions around the just-ended international camp would be as minimal as possible.

Tuchel will start at the beginning of January.

– We are excited to have hired Thomas Tuchel, one of the best coaches in the world and Anthony Barrywho is one of the best English coaches to support him. Our recruitment process has been very thorough, says the CEO of the English Football Association Mark Bullingham in the bulletin.

Tuchel becomes the third non-British manager of the England national team by Sven-Göran Eriksson and Fabio Capello after. The 51-year-old German coach has coached Dortmund, PSG, Chelsea and Bayern Munich, among others.

– I am very proud that I have been given the honor of leading the England team. It is a huge privilege to represent England. The opportunity to work with this special and talented group is very exciting, commented the new head coach.

Gareth Southgate left the position of head coach after the final loss of the summer European Championships. Lee Carsley has served as temporary head coach since then, for example in two Nations League matches against Finland.
