Now it will be more expensive to get a drivers

With costs for, for example, driving school, mandatory risk training and driving tests, it can cost tens of thousands of kroner to get a driver’s license in Sweden.

Now it will be even more expensive, after the Swedish Transport Agency has decided to greatly increase the fee for issuing or renewing driving licences.

The sharp increase in the fee is blamed on the pandemic.

Fees for driver’s licenses are being increased significantly

As of the new year, the fee for issuing or renewing a driver’s license will be increased by SEK 55 to SEK 375. This corresponds to an increase of over 17 percent.

According to the Swedish Transport Agency, the fee had to be raised so sharply because they waited to raise the fees during the pandemic, which created an imbalance in the business’s finances.

– It is necessary that we charge the fees required to correspond to our costs. Of course, we also work consciously and carefully to see what we can make more efficient and what savings are necessary. It is an important issue in the authority, says the finance director Rosie-Marie Fors in a press release.

The Swedish Transport Agency raises more fees

The cost of issuing and renewing driver’s licenses and driving licenses is not the only fee that the Swedish Transport Agency has decided to raise.

It has also been decided to increase the Road Traffic Register Fee, which is levied annually for every car, motorcycle, motor vehicle, heavy all-terrain vehicle and trailer to cover the costs of running and developing the Road Traffic Register. The fee is increased by SEK 7 and thus lands at SEK 69.

It will also be more expensive to get a personal license plate. The fee is paid every ten years, and the Swedish Transport Agency’s share is increased by SEK 700 to SEK 1,400.

The increased fees for the road traffic register and personal registration plate also come into effect at New Year.
