Now is the time to take advantage of the latest promotions in supermarkets before this new law

Now is the time to take advantage of the latest

From March 1, 2024, super promotions of certain products sold in supermarkets will be prohibited. Here are the items concerned, which should cost more with this new regulation.

“70% discount”; “A product purchased = a product offered”; “Two packs of diapers for the price of one”… Super promotions such as we currently see in supermarkets will no longer be able to apply to certain everyday products. A new regulation, called the Descrozailles law, must indeed come into force from March 1. It aims above all to strengthen the balance between distributors and suppliers, but has the consequence of limiting promotions on certain non-food products, and in fact, of increasing French spending in an already inflationary context.

Concretely, supermarkets will no longer be able to display reductions beyond 34% in the drugstore, perfumery, hygiene and maintenance (DPH) sections. Among the products concerned are therefore diapers and baby wipes, deodorants, toilet paper, soap and shower gel. While waiting for this new measure, the French can benefit, for a few more days, from attractive promotions in most supermarkets and hypermarkets such as Lidl, Carrefour, Auchan, E.Leclerc and Intermarché.

It is therefore a good time to stock up on a small stock of hygiene and toiletry products, in reserve, before you no longer have the opportunity to do so at attractive prices. Don’t hesitate to take a look at the shelves of your supermarket or on their website to check what they offer.

For MP Frédéric Descrozaille, at the origin of this bill, it is also about protecting jobs and SMEs which are unable to lower their selling prices. The measure also takes up the principle of the Egalim law dating from 2018 which requires distributors to make a margin of at least 10% on food products, a way of protecting farmers who are at the end of their tether.
