“Now I get to wear the dog’s head”

Wow, this came completely out of the blue!
Calle Halfvarsson chooses to let his home village Sågmyra down.
And now surprises everyone with the year’s most unexpected news in ski Sweden.

It is not exactly common to have a “silly season” in skiing, but now a real bomb has fallen. The Swedish national team veteran Calle Halfvarsson choosing to leave parent club Sågmyra, where he still lives.

Calle’s Great Betrayal

To instead make a sensitive move to IFK Mora.
– Now I have to carry the dog’s head out in the village, Halfvarsson admits to SportExpressen.
– I am very loyal to the village. So it hurts to leave Sågmyra. The idea was to stay there for the rest of his career, but now it’s going to be like this.

The reason is also quite unexpected and it is about the 34-year-old wanting to make a completely new venture with his cross-country skiing. As early as next winter, Halfvarsson wants to go to the Vasaloppet for the first time.
– If it is the case that I am fighting for victory in the overall World Cup, there may not be a Vasalopp. But otherwise it could be like that, says Calle in the interview.
– And then it is of course an advantage to go for Mora with their big team all around.

Halfvarsson’s change

Another advantage of the club change is that the national team skater has a much greater chance of winning SM gold in the relay as IFK Mora is a big club compared to Sågmyra. The people of Mora are of course rejoicing at bringing in a top skater of Calle Halfvarsson’s caliber.
– It’s really fun. I now hope that Calle can lift himself another step with the help he will get from our team – and possibly it could be a Vasalopps start as well. Which would be really cool, says Thomas Bredbergchairman of IFK Mora, to the evening newspaper.

This year’s signing in ski Sweden is a fact and Halfvarsson comes to his new club with a very fine track record. Double WC silver, a WC bronze, four World Cup wins, a SC gold and 14 seasons at the top level in cross-country skiing.
