Unnit premiered on SVT in August. Then the program was in Northern Sami and Meänkieli.
The program is for the very youngest with a target group of 2-year-olds where the children can let loose in the studio and mess with cakes and berries. They get to play grocery store and play with cars. All while learning languages in a playful way.
– We have made a fun and visually strong children’s program where common words in the minority language are included as a bonus. We saw a lack of provision for the youngest children and wanted to do something where the language and the story are specially adapted for them, says project manager Manda Älmeblad.
Producer Marit Kuhmunen Blom agrees.
– We know that toddlers need to see eyes, nose and mouth to understand that someone is talking to them. Then we made graphic figures that carry the language throughout the sections. We also know that children like to watch other children and we wanted to do it in a playful way, she says.
The first 12 episodes in Southern and Lule Sami will be published on SVT Play on December 30.
