When other Swedes left the Russian hockey league KHL, Adam Reideborn chose to complete his contract with the army team CSKA Moscow.
Now the goalkeeper explains the decision.
– Everyone can think what they want, he says.
Adam Reideborn have not wanted to talk to the Swedish media before. The 31-year-old has been heavily criticized for his decision to stay in Russia after the invasion of Ukraine.
– There were many thoughts and reflections. We were four Swedes in CSKA when the war started and we talked a lot with each other, the other players and the management. What we focused on was if we should be worried and how we should do it, says Reideborn to Aftonbladet.

After finishing the 2021-2022 season, Reideborn chose to go back to the Russian capital after some time in Sweden to also play in 2022-2023 for the army team.
Reideborn admits
According to Reideborn, he risked a few million kroner in fines if he had broken the contract.
– I didn’t know exactly what the consequences would be. I chose not to end up without a team or without a transfer card if CSKA kept it. Then I decided to go back. I would have made the same decision today, I think.
Reideborn takes the criticism from others in stride.
– Everyone can think what they want. My situation was such that I didn’t want to take any chances. I wanted to play ice hockey and didn’t know what would happen if I didn’t go back. I’m a goalkeeper and that player market is smaller, it didn’t feel worth starting a fight with the club.
