– It is about adjusting for a new business plan, as Volvo has already said, they want to take 100 percent ownership and without Northvolt we are dependent on a new third party. Together with Volvo, we are looking at several different options. We see the notification as necessary to adjust to ensure long-term sustainability, says Christian Jebsen, communications manager at Novo energy.
The message came on Monday, something like Sweden’s Radio Echo first reported on.
“We understand the significant impact this will have on our valued employees and we will provide them with help and support during these changes,” said company CEO Adrian Clarke in a press release.
To be negotiated with the unions
The company Novo energy is owned by Volvo Cars and troubled Northvolt, but Volvo has previously stated that they want to take over the entire company. Negotiations are ongoing.
Do you foresee less production than planned?
– It is too early to say, says Christian Jebsen.
Is this a step towards no battery production?
– I absolutely cannot say that, what I can say is that we are dependent on a new technical partner.
Negotiations with the unions are now pending and according to Novo energy it is too early to say when the negotiations will be finished.
