Novaya Gazeta’s editor-in-chief Sergey Sokolov has been arrested in Moscow, the newspaper reports.
He is said to have been arrested for having “undermined the Russian army” in an article in the newspaper, but which article is actually in question is unclear.
If Sokolov is convicted, he risks a fine equivalent to just under SEK 5,700.
Most of Novaya Gazeta’s work has been done from Latvia since March 2022, after Russian authorities tightened the noose on press freedom, but Sokolov has continued to work from Russia.
