Novak Djokovic, world number 7, was unceremoniously knocked out 7-6 (8/6), 6-3 Friday January 3 by the American Reilly Opelka, ranked only 293rd, in the quarter-final of the ATP 250 tournament in Brisbane, a ominous defeat for the Serbian before the Australian Open. The 2 meter 11 American gave the Serbian no chance, notably passing 16 aces and multiplying unstoppable shots. Djokovic, former world No.1 who is coming out of a 2024 season without a Grand Slam title – a first since 2017 – wants to try to win a 25th Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, his favorite major tournament that he has won ten times, starting on January 12 in Melbourne.
