A New York judge has scheduled sentencing in one week – January 10 – in the trial involving President-elect Donald Trump and hush money payments to a porn star.
Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Juan Merchan decided to postpone sentencing until after the US presidential election held in November. The reason then was to eliminate any suspicion of interference in the election.
Merchan announced Friday in a written statement that sentencing will now be announced — but that Trump will not be sentenced to prison.
Trump was convicted on 34 counts last May by a jury in New York.
