The Harry Potter franchise is a dearly loved home to all types of fantasy fans. No matter what skin color or gender, completely independent of religion or sexuality. all the more more shocking are the transphobic comments, franchise creator JK Rowling has long published (via Glamour). Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe opposed it early on. Now he explained again why.
Daniel Radcliffe wanted to stand by Harry Potter fans against JK Rowling
He told Indiewire:
Since the end of the Harry Potter film series, I’ve met so many young queer and trans people who identified with Potter. And when she was then [durch Rowlings Kommentare] were hurt, I wanted to tell them: Not everyone in the franchise thinks that way. That was very important.
Radcliffe has been involved with The Trevor Project for many years in the queer community. The website offers LGBTQ+ suicide prevention and published an open letter from the actor (via The Trevor Project ), following Rowling’s Twitter remarks, in which he opposed the attitude of the Harry Potter creator.
Rowling, meanwhile, insists on her own point of view. In August 2022, the story of her new book The Ink Black Heart became known. It’s about an artist who falls into disrepute among his own fans because of statements perceived as transphobic (via Rolling Stone).
