Nostalgic weekend in Kiruna – it’s the last festival in the old town

After two years without the traditional folk festival, the Kiruna Festival is now starting for the last time due to the mining community’s move to a new city center.

“Lucky we had time”

– As an organizer, you mostly feel what luck that we could do this. If we had not been able to do it this summer, then this center would have disappeared before we got to have the party, says Alex Olofsson.

The festival runs from Thursday to Sunday and happy Kiruna residents of all ages have gathered in a festive but also nostalgic atmosphere.

Everyone should have fun

– This festival is like our homecoming weekend. It is the only opportunity we Kiruna residents really have to hang out with each other, dance, listen to music and have fun. Then it should also be a festival for everyone, from the smallest to the oldest. That is why we have tried to have as wide a range as possible so that there is something for everyone, says Alex Olofsson.

In the clip, the festival general tells how it feels to say goodbye and his thoughts on the new city center.
