At the same time, trust in the Norwegian royal house is plummeting, according to the survey. 62 percent now say they support the monarchy – compared to 68 percent in August.
The dramatic loss during the summer of this year must be said to be sensational, says Tor Bomann-Larsen, historian and author of books on the Norwegian monarchy, to NRK.
The Norwegian royal house has been hotly rewritten in recent weeks with Märtha Louise’s wedding to the scandal-ridden self-proclaimed shaman Durek Verrett. “Embarrassing” and “comic”, Norwegian commentators have commented on the event.
Norwegians: Should be stripped of the title
In the survey, 69 percent said she should be stripped of the princess title and only 16 percent said she should be allowed to keep it.
Tor Bomann-Larsen emphasizes that another event shook the royal house this summer: the ongoing police investigation against Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s son, Marius Borg Høiby, who was accused, among other things, of assaulting his girlfriend.
The survey was conducted September 3–5 with 1,011 respondents.
