A Norwegian -registered and Norwegian -owned vessel has been taken by Troms police district, they themselves say in a press release.
The ship is suspected to be involved in the cable sabotage that recently took place in the Baltic Sea between Latvia and Sweden.
The ship, Silver Dania, sails between Sankt Petersburg and Murmansk. The police say that the entire crew on board is Russian.
The ship was taken under an effort last night after a legal request from the Latvian authorities.
The crew and the shipping company cooperate with the authorities. The police are currently conducting the house search, interrogation and securing proof of the ship.
– We and hundreds of other boats pass by all the time. We drove at low speed and did not have the anchor outside. We have not done anything wrong. We have not damaged the cable, says Tormod Fossmark, CEO and major owner in the shipping company Silversea.
Prosecutor convinced: Vezhen behind the cable break
At the same time, Swedish prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist is convinced: the vehz ship is behind the cable break.
The ship has been located outside Karlskrona since Sunday and on board continued investigations to investigate the suspicion of gross sabotage.
I can, on good grounds, say that it is this vessel that has caused this cable damage ‘, Ljungqvist tells TT.
At present, he does not want to comment if the cable is suspected to have been damaged with diligence.
There are no legal reasons for seizing the Vehzen ship, the shipping company’s representative claims. On Friday, the issue will be tried by Stockholm District Court.
