Princess Mette-Marit and Crown Prince Haakon shed light on the royal year in an interview with NRK. The princess did not want to deal with the accusations of her son Marius Borg Høiby.
Prince Haakon and the princess Mette-Maarit gave an interview with the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation at his home in Skaugum.
– The year has been hard, really hard. Nothing else can be said, the princess described in NRK’s annual interview.
The year has been full of scandals for the Norwegian royal house. At the center of the commotion is Mette-Marit’s son Marius Borg Høibywho has been accused of assaulting and raping his ex-girlfriends.
Høiby was arrested in August. Shortly after his arrest, he wrote in an open letter that he suffered from mental health problems and struggled with substance abuse for several years.
The royal couple stated that they have sought help from health care to be able to carry out their duties. They have been criticized for their reserved communication line in Marius’ situation.
Mette Marit still did not comment on her son’s statements.
– He has the right to privacy. I can only say that we have received help as a family so that we have been able to fulfill our promises to the Norwegians. We have received and will receive support. It is very important.
The princess specified that the application for help did not start in August, but long before the summer. The crown prince and princess have been criticized for their reserved communication line in Marius’ situation.
– It is important that people understand this.
King Harald: Mental health problems a challenge everywhere
Also the king Harald V sidelined Marius’s problems.
– Mental breakdown is a problem in Norway and all over the world. The problem must be addressed, the king said.
Princess Mette Maarit thanked the king and his wife Queen Sonja for their support.
– It is important to take care of family members.
