The Norwegian politician Per-Willy Amundsen quits as chairman of the justice committee in the Storting, reports NRK.
The announcement comes after he wrote controversially about Islam and women on Facebook.
– I have not done anything illegal, but I see and have great understanding that these statements on Facebook have been a great burden for the party. I take that seriously, he says to the Norwegian channel.
According to Amundsen, the decision has been made in dialogue with the party board for the right-wing populist Progress Party.
Among other things, Amundsen has been hard on what he calls “radical women who don’t know the inside and out of a penis”. After that, he said that he drank too much whiskey and that it is something that does not belong on a politician’s Facebook page, according to Dagbladet.
He also wrote that “Islam has a whole bunch of psychopaths who kill”, in a comment that has been removed.
Amundsen has previously been Minister of Justice and last Saturday it was announced that his activity on Facebook will be investigated internally within the Progress Party.
