Norwegian police want to patrol with Swedish police – against gang crime

The police authority in Norway sees a connection between Swedish and Norwegian criminal networks. They write that in a letter to the Norwegian Ministry of Justice, Norwegian reports NRK.

“Swedish and Norwegian criminals cooperate across the border, and the activities of Swedish gang criminals on Norwegian soil have become more visible,” they write, among other things.

Crime across the border: “Extraordinary”

As a measure, the Norwegian police authority now wants to see closer cooperation and patrol together with the Swedish police, a proposal they presented to the Norwegian Minister of Justice.

“The cross-border crime is considered serious and extraordinary and thus differs from an ordinary situation that the national police is expected to handle on its own”.

It is not clear how the proposed police cooperation will take place. The Norwegian Ministry of Justice tells NRK that they will review the matter.

To SVT, the Norwegian police authority says that they cannot give any further details until the Ministry of Justice has dealt with the matter.

Cooperation with Danish police

Recently, the Swedish and Danish police began an in-depth collaboration to jointly try to stop serious crime, where a Danish police officer will be stationed in Malmö and a Swedish police officer in Copenhagen.
