Norwegian LO calls off its general strike

“The strike ended immediately and people can go back to their jobs as soon as possible,” Norwegian LO and Næringslivets hovedorganisasjon (NHO) announced in a joint press release.

Thus, roughly 23,000 of the 25,000 strikers are calling off their action.

The two parties agreed in the late afternoon that the workers will receive the 5.2 percent in the framework agreement they previously paid in installments. But they also receive an additional 0.2 percent in a central supplement, and low-paid workers are given a supplement of SEK 3 per hour, NTB reports. Norwegian inflation is estimated to average 4.9 percent this year.

“This is a historically good result, we have never before received a higher kroner supplement,” says a happy LO chairman Peggy Hessen Følsvik.

Employers are just as happy.

— I am also very happy that we have found a solution. We have already said from the beginning that we see this strike as unnecessary, says NHO CEO Ole Erik Almlid.

However, not everyone is satisfied. Shortly after the announcement from LO and NHO, YS (Yrkesorganisasjonenes sentralforbund) stated that its 1,500 strikers are not returning to their jobs.
