Norwegian giant tribute to the Swedish super talent Alvar Myhlback – after the tough poke from the World Cup

Alvar Myhlback impressed at the Swedish premiere in Gällivare.
But it was not enough for a place in the squad for the World Cup.
Now the Swedish talent is celebrated from the Norwegian side.

Sweden’s biggest skiing talent, and one of the world’s biggest skiing talents, right now is called Alvar Myhlback. The young cross-country skier attracted a lot of attention when, as a 16-year-old, he received a dispensation to ride the Vasaloppet – and placed in eighth place.

Alvar impresses

Since then, the shooting star has continued to impress, not least in this weekend’s Swedish premiere. In the distance races, Myhlback came eighth in both. In the sprint, he came in an impressive third place, after making a super sprint in the final lap where he overtook, among other things Calle Halfvarsson.

But the efforts were not enough to get a place in the squad for this weekend’s World Cup premiere in Ruka.
– Alvar’s result was not that extra that had been required. Two eighth places for a 17-year-old is great, but not enough for the World Cup, says national team manager Anders Byström to Expressen after the squad selection.

Tributes to Myhlback

However, the efforts were good enough to attract attention and praise from our neighboring country to the west.
– Yes, a lot of people are actually talking about him. Although Norway has many promising talents coming up, it is clear that no one can measure up to Alvar Myhlback, says the Norwegian ski expert Torgeir Björn to Radiosporten.

Myhlback has a certain one Peter Northug as an advisor, and the Norwegian skiing icon has previously lifted the 17-year-old to the skies. Now Torgeir Björn is doing the same.
– To be so good so young, it’s very exciting. Petter Northug won a World Cup competition as a junior when he won the skiathlon in Falun in 2006, and it will be very interesting to see if Alvar Myhlback can win the World Cup at a younger age than Petter Northug did, says the skiing expert to the radio channel.
