Russia has summoned the Norwegian ambassador after several Russians were arrested in Norway for using drones.
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that it has informed Ambassador Robert Kvile that Norway should stop persecuting “Russian citizens because of their nationality”.
“We have noted that the sentences against the Russians are politically motivated and have nothing to do with the principles of fair and impartial justice,” reads the statement.
A Russian man was sentenced last week to 90 days in prison after the man flew a drone over Norwegian territory. The verdict follows a decision on restrictions on the right to fly drones.
In recent weeks, Norwegian police have arrested about ten Russian citizens who flew drones.
Norway has stepped up preparedness as a result of Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine.
