In Norway, a very strong storm is currently raging in Lofoten, Vesterålen and the coastal areas of Tromssa. The authorities advise to avoid unnecessary movement outside.

In the coastal area of ​​Norway, schools and kindergartens have been closed and children have been told to stay at home. Several flights and ferry services have been canceled and the authorities have warned ships to stay in ports. Traffic is also hindered by the closing of bridges during the strongest winds.

According to the Norwegian broadcasting company NRK, several cargo ships have sought emergency ports. The wave height has been up to 25 meters.

NRK also reports that in the center of the city of Sortland in Vesterålen, the police are warning about roof sheets and roof tiles flying with the wind.

The highest wind speed measured during the day in Lofoten at Svolväri airport is 41.2 meters per second.

According to the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, the prevailing speed of the storm wind blowing from the southwest in the area is 25 meters per second and in gusts up to 38 meters per second. A storm is classified as a hurricane when its prevailing wind speed is 32 meters per second.

The storm is predicted to weaken next night at the earliest.
