According to the Norwegian Skiing Federation’s regulations, it has been clear in theory that you cannot refuse a place in the national team and at the same time be allowed to compete for Norway in the World Cup.
In practice, however, it has turned out that it is not so simple. Among other things, Petter Northug was allowed to go to World Cup competitions for Norway even though he had turned down a place in the national team.
