Norway donates F-16 to Ukraine

At the NATO summit in Washington, Antony Blinken announced that several F-16 planes are on their way to Ukraine right now.

– At the same time as I speak, the transport of F-16 fighter planes is taking place, they are coming from Denmark and Holland, says Blinken.

During the day, it was also announced that Norway is donating six combat aircraft, including those of the F-16 model.

– Ukraine’s ability to defend itself against air attacks is crucial in the battle against Russia. Norway has now decided to donate six F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine. We plan to start delivering the aircraft in 2024, says Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Störe.

Norway has previously joined together with several other countries to donate F-16 planes to Ukraine. For a few years now, Norway has started phasing out its F-16s in favor of the F-35 fighter model. Some planes have also been sold to Romania.

– We must continue to support Ukraine’s struggle to defend itself against Russia’s war of aggression. Ukraine’s struggle is also our struggle. It is a fight not only to protect Ukraine’s freedom, but also to protect our common values, says Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide.
