On May 29, there is a stop to Russian tourism to Norway. The border is closed as the government tightens regulations in light of the war.
The decision is a reaction to Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, states Minister of Justice and Emergency Emilie Enger Mehl (Sp) in a press release.
Already in the spring of 2022, the government in Oslo tightened the regulations around visas for Russians. The new restrictions apply to both those with Norwegian visas issued before 2022 and those with visas issued by other Schengen countries.
As of May 29, Norwegian police can turn away Russian citizens subject to the new rules. However, certain exceptions apply, including for visits by family members residing in Norway.
