On Monday, Sweden launched a rocket from its space center in Kiruna. On Tuesday, it accidentally fell 15 kilometers from the border between the countries into the mountains on the Norwegian side.
Norway is annoyed with Sweden after a Swedish research rocket fell on the side of Norway on Tuesday.
Norway complains that it did not receive an official notification from Sweden about the violation that occurred in the border area.
– The fall of such a rocket is a very serious event. When such a border violation occurs, it is crucial that it is reported to the authorities through the right channels, says a representative of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ragnhild Håland Simenstad For the Norwegian broadcasting company NRK.
Sweden has started an investigation into the matter.
– We are currently investigating why the rocket lost its course and fell in Norway, says the communications manager of the Swedish Space Administration Philip Ohlsson.
The fall caused no damage
The rocket was launched on Monday from the Esrange space center in Kiruna, Lapland, Sweden.
It fell in the area of Målselv municipality in northern Norway, about 15 kilometers from the Swedish border.
The fall did not cause personal or material damage. The nearest settlement is about ten kilometers away.
The rocket was launched to an altitude of about 250 kilometers, where it conducted research in a weightless state, says the Swedish Space Administration.
