Norway and Sweden warn of the growing threat of Russian sabotage | Foreign countries

The Swedish security police, Säpo, is especially concerned about the defense sector.

Sweden and Norway have both warned that the threat of Russian sabotage has increased.

The Swedish security police Säpo warned on Thursday that the most vulnerable are companies in the military industry and military targets, says, among others, the Swedish television SVT.

According to Säpo, the increased risk is related to Sweden’s relatively large support for Ukraine.

Säpo points out that it has been emphasizing the intelligence activities of foreign powers for years, but now there is a tendency towards increased risk-taking in Russia.

In defense companies, the threat images are already known. Robert Limmergård, chairman of the Association of Security and Defense Companies, tells SVT that the companies have told both about attempts to break into their premises physically and about filming the activity with drones.

There are also warnings of sabotage in Norway

The security services of seven European countries that visited Norway have warned Norway’s energy sector that Russia may threaten critical infrastructure, the news agency Reuters reports. Finland also participated in the closed-door meeting.

German representative Siban Selen told Reuters that the threat is both espionage and sabotage.

– When we talk about sabotage now, we are talking about Russia, said the head of Norway’s counter-espionage Beate Gangaas.

In April, two dual citizens of Russia and Germany were arrested in Germany, who were suspected of planning sabotage. Russia has rejected claims that it was behind the attack plans.

Norway already warned in the winter that Europe’s increased dependence on Norwegian oil and gas has increased the risk of attacks on energy facilities.
