The Swedish battery manufacturer Northvolt is laying off 840 employees from its factory in Skellefteå, it says Swedish public radio SVT.
The layoffs are members of the metal workers union IF Metall. Northvolt, struggling with financial difficulties, announced last week that it would lay off 338 administrative employees.
In September, the company said it would start collective bargaining negotiations for 1,600 employees. Those who joined the company last will have to leave.
According to IF Metall, approximately 1,850 employees will remain in the company after the layoffs.
