A delegation of members of North Korea’s ruling party arrived in Beijing, China on Friday and will also visit Vietnam and Laos, according to the state-run North Korean news agency KCNA.

However, KCNA did not specify the purpose of the visits.

China is North Korea’s biggest economic benefactor and ally, and current leader Kim Jong Un has sought to strengthen ties with Beijing while stepping up his aggressive rhetoric against Seoul.

According to experts, North Korea appears to be trying to resume diplomatic activities after closing its borders during the covid-19 pandemic. Earlier in March, a delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Pak Myong Ho visited Mongolia.
