  • North Korea sends new junk balloons to South Korea

    On Saturday, military officials announced that North Korea had sent balloons, likely carrying debris, toward South Korea, the South Korean Yonhap.

    Saturday is the fourth day of balloon launches this week.

    Now authorities are warning citizens about falling objects in the area around Seoul. At the same time, people are urged to report balloons to the military or the police.

    Since the end of May, the North has launched thousands of balloons with debris in retaliation for the leaflets previously sent against Pyongyang by activists in South Korea.

    No hazardous materials have been found in the balloons, which largely contained manure, scrap, paper, pieces of plastic and bottles.

    61 people have died in Gaza in the last 48 hours, write Al Jazeera citing the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

    Within the same time frame, 162 people have also been injured.

  • Wheelchair-bound woman and motorist in accident

    Just before eleven o’clock, the police were alerted to a traffic accident at the intersection Snapphanevägen/Kanalgatan in Kristianstad.

    – Patrol is on the scene of an accident between a car and an elderly woman in a wheelchair, says police spokesperson Evelina Olsson.

    The condition of the victim’s injuries is currently unclear.

  • SMHI flags high temperatures in Svealand

    SMHI flags high temperatures in parts of northeastern Götaland and eastern Svealand.

    “Partly sunny and warm with, especially in metropolitan areas, high temperatures that can cause increased strain on the body,” their website states.

    Cities covered include Stockholm, Uppsala, Västerås, Örebro, Skövde, Linköping, Norrköping and Södertälje.

    SMHI has previously flagged high temperatures in parts of Götaland.

    Equality Minister Paulina Brandberg (L) believes that veiling very young children should be grounds for a report of concern.

    – My personal view is that every time a young child wears a veil, especially when it comes to really young children and especially when it is also parents who combine it with putting pressure on staff that the child is not allowed to play with boys on the break. Every time it happens, I think it should be grounds for reporting concern to the social service, so that the social service can really intervene, says Brandberg to SR Ekot’s Saturday interview.

    Parts of L want to see a headscarf ban for children in preschool and school, but the proposal was voted down at the party’s last national meeting.

  • Member of the “Grease” band dead

    Screamin’ Scott Simon, who was a pianist and songwriter in the American doo-wop group Sha Na Na, has died, Billboard writes.

    Simon played with the group from 1970 until they stopped touring in 2022.

    Sha Na Na broke through after a performance at the Woodstock festival and they had their own television series in the late 1970s.

    They were also in the musical film “Grease” from 1978 and Simon co-composed the song “Sandy” performed by John Travolta in the film.

    Simon died last Thursday in the suites of cancer. He was 75 years old.

  • Typhoon in China: over 574,000 evacuated

    Super typhoon Yagi has moved in over southern China during yesterday.

    In Guangdong province, which borders Hong Kong, over 574,000 people have been evacuated, Reuters writes.

    Yagi is Asia’s strongest storm so far this year, with wind speeds of 234 km/h near the typhoon’s center.

    About 830,000 households were without power Friday night, schools were closed and flights were canceled.

    Hong Kong’s stock market has also closed, according to Reuters.

  • Man dead after motorcycle accident in Degerfors

    On Friday evening, a motorcycle drove off the road on county road 204 in Degerfors municipality.

    The emergency services started life-saving measures on the spot.

    But now reporting P4 Örebro that a man in his 50s died after the accident.

    Relatives have been notified.

  • A fire was lit at the fire station in Härryda

    On the night of Saturday, a man poured petrol at the fire station in Hindås in Härryda municipality and lit it, reports P4 Gothenburg.

    The fire caused minor damage to the facade.

    A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson.

  • A cyclist was hit – being investigated as attempted murder

    A 17-year-old boy who was traveling on a bicycle was hit by a motorist on Friday evening.

    The driver must have then left the scene on foot.

    The boy had to be taken to hospital with serious injuries.

    An hour after the accident, a man in his 20s was arrested. He is now suspected of attempted murder, as the police could not rule out that the collision was intentional.

  • SMHI flags very high temperatures

    September is unusually warm.

    Now SMHI is flagging for high temperatures this weekend as well. In some places, the temperature can approach the 30 mark.

    The notice of high temperatures applies to parts of Götaland and parts of southern Svealand.

    “The temperatures cause increased strain on the body, which can cause problems for especially risk groups,” writes SMHI on its website.

  • Couldn’t stay at the campsite – threatened to set fire to his caravan

    A man at Skrea campsite in Falkenberg had been informed that he would not be allowed to stay at the campsite.

    A decision that did not land well.

    On Friday evening, he therefore poured flammable liquid around his caravan and threatened to light it on fire.

    The police were called to the scene and were able to arrest the man, who is now suspected of attempted arson.

    Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri is said to support the tourism chief’s proposal for a fee to enter the steps of the famous baroque monument Trevi Fountain.

    The ticket to the fountain is supposed to cost two euros, equivalent to SEK 22. But such a fee must first be approved by Rome’s city council.

    The fee only applies to those who want to walk the nine steps to the fountain. Those who only go to Trevi square do not have to pay.

  • SAS plane turned around in the air after technical problems

    An SAS plane on its way to Umeå from Arlanda had to turn around on Friday evening after 30 minutes in the air, according to SAS.

    The plane turned around after indications of technical problems and made a normal landing at Arlanda.

    The passengers then had to change to another aircraft that was going to Umeå.

    It should not be an engine failure but some other type of problem according to SAS.

    – When there is an indication of a technical problem, it is not certain that it is actually a problem, but you have to be safe before the safe, writes Irena Busic, press spokesperson at SAS.

    The plane must be examined by technicians.
