The robot is supposed to land outside of Japan’s economic zone, according to state news agency NHK.
Also on Thursday, the country fired a suspected intercontinental ballistic missile into the sea between the Korean Peninsula and Japan. This only a few hours before the president of South Korea flew to Tokyo for a summit where they discussed ways to counter conflict with nuclear-armed North Korea.
The weapons tests are also taking place at the same time as South Korean and American forces are conducting a joint eleven-day military exercise, called “Freedom Shield 23”.
