North Korea is escalating its provocative weapons tests off the coasts of South Korea and Japan. They have now fired at least 23 robots, one of which is said to have crashed near South Korean waters. It is a provocation that is described as unusually extensive. – The conflict in Ukraine and Taiwan makes it quite opportune for North Korea, there won’t be such strong reactions internationally because they are busy with other conflicts, says Niklas Swanström, who is head of the Institute for Security and Development Policy. And the fear is now great that North Korea is preparing its first nuclear weapons test in five years, something Swanström sees as likely. – I think we will see a nuclear weapons test shortly, the big danger is what it will lead to, if it escalates further.
