The youtubeur Norman Thavaux is suspected by the investigators of acts of rape and corruption of minors. The outcome of the custody will determine the nature of future legal proceedings.
What is the follow-up to the Norman Thavaud case, accused of rape and corruption of a minor? The youtubeur, who is the subject of a preliminary investigation, entrusted to the Brigade for the Protection of Minors (BPM), opened in January 2022, was placed in police custody on Monday December 5. This was extended on Tuesday, December 6, so that the investigators could deepen their questioning and that the respondent could be confronted with one of the complainants, Maggie Desmarais. The investigators therefore considered that there was valid evidence that could lead to the belief that Norman Thavaud had indeed committed the acts described by the 6 women implicating him, including 5 for rape.
At the end of police custody, Norman Thavaud may, on the decision of the public prosecutor or the investigating judge, be released. Justice may consider that there is no need to continue the procedure by depriving the respondent of his freedom to come and go. But it is also possible that the suspect will be transferred to the court for an interview with the investigating judge. If the latter considers that there are “serious and consistent indications” of his involvement in the charges against him – in this case a misdemeanor and a sexual crime – he will then be indicted. If this is the case, then Norman Thavaud may, depending on the judge’s decision, be placed under judicial supervision or placed in pre-trial detention.
Norman Thavaud is presumed innocent. At this stage, he did not wish to communicate on the accusations of which he is the subject, in particular on those brought against him, publicly, since 2020.
