Norfolk woman charged at Festive RIDE program in Brant

A 35-year-old woman from Norfolk County faces impaired driving charges after being stopped at an OPP Festive RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program.

The driver’s vehicle entered the checkpoint on Muir Road North in the County of Brant at about 11:50 pm on Friday, December 1, said police.

The accused was arrested and taken to the Brant OPP detachment for testing.

The Festive RIDE program in West Region began November 16 and has so far resulted in 122 impaired driving charges and 14 warn-range suspensions.

Officers have conducted 730 RIDE check events among 13 detachments in this year’s campaign.

In the first 15 days of last year’s campaign, 577 RIDE check events had been conducted resulting in 75 impaired charges and eight warn-range suspensions.

Motorists can expect to see an increase in police presence on roads and highways throughout the province as RIDE programs are staged 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Police remind the public to call 9-1-1 if you suspect that someone is driving while impaired by drugs or alcohol.
