A two-vehicle crash could have been much worse if it wasn’t for evasive action taken by one of the drivers involved, say police.
A transport truck, loaded with 51,000 liters of diesel, and a sports utility vehicle collided at Highway 24 and Old Highway 24 between Simcoe and Waterford at shortly before 2 pm on Wednesday afternoon.
The driver of the SUV was transported by ambulance to hospital with undetermined injuries, Norfolk OPP Const. Ed Sanchuk said on social media.
The transport driver was shaken up but not injured, he said.
“I can tell you right now that the driver of the transport truck saved the driver of (the SUV) by taking evasive action to try to avoid this crash,” said Sanchuk.
The two vehicles did collide, but investigators believe they could have been dealing with a fatal incident, Sanchuk said.
“Kudos to that driver that prevented a fatal collision on our roads today,” he said.
Highway 24 between Windham Road 10 and Windham Road 11 was closed for several hours for the investigation on Wednesday.
