Norfolk OPP to keep an eye on students at beach

Many high school students will be heading to the Lake Erie shoreline in Norfolk County on Friday rather than attend classes.

The first Friday of June each year has been unofficially declared ‘beach day’ as students will flock to Port Dover, Long Point, and Turkey Point beaches.

While not supported or sanctioned by local authorities, the Norfolk County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police will be keeping a close eye on activities at the beaches.

“Officers will be patrolling the beaches for the day and will be focusing their attention on those who fail to make safety a priority,” said Constable Andrew Gamble, media relations officer at Norfolk OPP. “There will be enforcement of all Highway Traffic Act, Liquor, Trespassing and Criminal Code violations.

“Officers will be looking for underage drinking, drinking and driving, trespassing, property damage and other actions that put other people or property at risk.”
