Norfolk looks to expedite building permits for residents

Norfolk County has come up with a way to help residents looking to add a deck, pool or shed to their property.

But the assistance county officials are offering doesn’t involve hammers or nails.

They’re offering to help residents with the municipal permit process by holding a special fast-track permit night in Simcoe. The event takes place at the county’s Robinson Administration Building, 185 Robinson Street from 4:30 pm to 7 pm on March 21.

“The purpose of this evening is not to obtain information but to process simple permits for pools, decks, and sheds quickly to avoid wait times,” Fritz Enzlin, the county’s chief building official, said. “That’s why we’re doing this, we want to help by expediting these permits and get the home owner started with their project once the nicer weather arrives.”

Enzlin said residents who come in with a “complete application”, which includes all necessary drawings and fees will have their applications reviewed on the spot by building staff. If the review is completed successfully, the applicant will get their permit that day. If there is more information required, the applicant will be advised and the review will continue at a later date once all the information is received and approved.

County staff will review applications to ensure compliance with zoning and building code requirements.

No registration is required for fast-track permit night and reviews will be completed on a first-come, first-served basis.
