Norfolk General Hospital welcomes first baby of 2025

Little Kaitlyn Klassen made local history on Jan. 2 becoming the first baby born at Norfolk General Hospital in 2025.

The daughter of Elizabeth and Jake Klassen of Walsingham, Kaitlyn made her grand entrance at 1:34 pm, weighing a healthy nine pounds, 10 ounces.

The newborn’s arrival was guided by midwives Kimberly Tigani and Juanita Peters and a team of nurses.

In 2024, 244 babies were born at Norfolk General, with “each arrival a testament to the exceptional care and dedication of our team,” said Aaron Gautreau, director of communications for the hospital.

To celebrate Baby Kaitlyn’s arrival, hospital staff presented the Klassens with the keepsake pewter piggy bank and a plush toy elephant.
