Norfolk County officials say input from residents will help them come up with an overall vision for the multi-purpose floor.

County officials want to know what activities residents believe the multi-purpose floor should be used for citing pickle ball, basketball and indoor soccer as a couple of examples.

As well, officials want to know what type of flooring – hardwood or rubber – residents want and what amenities, such as basketball nets and gym mats, should be added to the center.

Residents are also invited to comment on design features such as whether the arena boards should be removed or left in and if the project should include a walking track.

The recreation center was converted to indoor recreational space from an arena in 2021 and has a polished concrete surface. It is used for a range of activities including pickle ball, floor hockey, badminton, indoor walking, fitness and dry land training, indoor sports practices, roller derby, large event venues, children’s programming, and birthday parties.

The project timeline includes a design phase that runs from April 2024 to March 2025 with construction scheduled to take place from April 2025 to September 2026.
