The closure, which takes effect immediately, was announced by Norfolk County officials on Friday. The closure means access of 4th Concession Road between Highway 59 and East Quarter Line Road is also restricted.

Norfolk County officials, in a statement, said the closure is to ensure public safety and follows a routine inspection, which found significant deterioration. The bridge is on an unmaintained section of 4th Concession Road which has little traffic.

The bridge was recommended for removal due to its condition during the county’s bridge inspection program. The removal is expected to be done in 2028.

Public access to Backus Woods remains available through access points and parking areas on 3rd Concession Road (South Walsingham), East Quarter Line Road (South Walsingham, Highway 59 South and Highway 24 West.
