“Unable to exclude unauthorized transactions” • Nordnet’s customers were logged into the wrong accounts
Nordnet suffered extensive technical problems on Tuesday. Shortly after 11 o’clock, the online broker received reports from users who took part in other users’ account details. Shortly afterwards, the login possibilities for Nordnet’s site and app were closed down.
– It was a technical problem with us. It has not been caused by hacker attacks or external influences. It was a software component with us who worked inadequate, says Johan Tidestad, communications manager at Nordnet.
In social media, users testify that they have been logged in to the wrong accounts on Tuesday.
Jonas Hüttel is a journalist at Ekstrabladet. In an interview with his own magazine, he says he gained access to a Swedish user’s account when he logged in.
– I have access to all the features. I can buy, I can sell, which of course I couldn’t dream of. But I’m afraid of what can happen to my account, he says.
Cannot exclude unauthorized transactions
Danish Jonas, 41, tells the magazine that he gained access to a Finnish user’s account during the day.
– It was a Finnish man with a similar name like me. I could do everything, buy, sell and withdraw money, he says.
According to Johan Tidestad, there has been no confirmed case of unauthorized transactions during the day, but this is something that is being investigated.
– We cannot rule out that this has happened. We have to look at that in the next step, he says.
However, he emphasizes that it was not possible to withdraw money from someone else’s account.
– All withdrawals can only be made into an account you know of another bank yourself. I can say with one hundred percent certainty that no unauthorized transfers have been made.
The prompt: Customers with concern should hear from them
Tidestad urges Nordnet customers who feel worried that someone else should have had access to their accounts to contact the customer service.
– Anyone who feels anxious or feels that they have been negatively affected should contact us. Then we will look at each case individually and make an assessment, he says.
Nordnet’s site and app were opened to log in again at 15.30 on Tuesday afternoon.
The problem affected customers in all four countries where Nordnet has its operations – Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. The network broker’s share fell by over five percent on the Stockholm Stock Exchange after the information about the problems was released, according to TT.
