One of Sweden’s most endangered amphibians, the green-spotted toad, became extinct on Öland in the 90s. For several years, the county administrative board has worked to try to get the protected species back on the island and is now asking the public for help to see if they have succeeded.

If you see a green-spotted toad on Öland this summer, you are asked to pick up your mobile phone photo and send it to Nordens Ark.

In collaboration with the county administrative board, Nordens Ark has released thousands of fry and adults. But the endangered amphibian is difficult to detect in nature and they do not know if enough people managed to survive

– It is a very difficult species to inventory. Now we hope that both residents and tourists report in, says Kristofer Försäter, animal keeper at Nordens Ark.
