No KHL players for Brynäs.
That is the message that the team leaves.
The decision is expected to be hammered out at the upcoming annual meeting.
The discussion has been enormous within Swedish hockey. A bunch of Swedish players chose to play out their contracts in the KHL despite Russia launching a war of aggression against Ukraine, and some Swedish players even chose to extend their contracts in the league.
Rock hard decision
Recently, among others, the goalkeeper Adam Reideborn became champion for the army team CSKA Moscow for the second year in a row, and at the same time, Swedish players who fulfilled their contracts have been informed that they are not allowed to represent Tre Kronor. At the same time, several players who played in the KHL during the war are rumored to be returning to the SHL and hockey allsvenskan clubs. But now Brynäs firmly says no.
The club, which in the spring lost the qualifier against Malmö and thus plays in the Hockeyallsvenskan next season, has received a motion before the upcoming annual meeting to ban players who played in the KHL from playing in the club forever. It does not only apply to players who extended their contracts in the league – but to all players who played in the KHL from February 24, 2022, the day Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Highly praised
The motion has not yet been approved, but Brynä’s board has requested that it be approved, which means that everything indicates that there will be a new policy in the club. Many Swedish players had contracts for the 2021/2022 season, and despite the war chose to fulfill the contracts, but these players will therefore, in the future, most likely, never be able to represent Brynäs again.
The proposal has been widely praised on social media in the past 24 hours, and more clubs are expected to make the same decision shortly. Djurgården also have a similar motion to vote on at their upcoming annual meeting, and this also applies to Skellefteå AIK.
“Oh, hats off, there are other values than money and skilled players. Respect!!!”, writes a user on Twitter.
“More teams should take the same clear stance. It would be a good mark against those who choose to play there despite Russia’s inhuman behavior,” writes another.
