New champions are regularly published in League of Legends. Many are very strong at the release. After a while, a few of these champions get a re -work to adapt skills and playing style, but this champ simply didn’t want to be played despite its strength.
Which champion is it about? Yorick The Totengräber was published in 2011. He was a Juggernaut and was able to distribute a lot of damage and plugged in at the same time. With his skills he was able to summon several ghule. The Ultimate created the clone of an allied champion and revived it for a few seconds after death.
Why was old Yorick so strong? With the help of his Ghule and the Ultimate to create a clone, many 1V1 against Yorick led to an unfair struggle. With each ghul he received additional attack damage and damage reduction.
His ghule were able to slow down opponents and make Yorick faster and heal him. If the cloned champion has died, it was revived for 10 seconds and was able to continue to use all skills.
The simple skills meant that Yorick only had to tackle opponents and his army did the rest. Very few champions were able to measure themselves with him in 1V1 and were easily defeated in the Lane of Yoricks Ghularmea.
A popular joke of the community about the old Yorick was:
The word “counter” is translated as a counter or counterattack in English depending on the context.

Yorick’s style of play was boring
Then why nobody wanted to play him? The old Yorick was a so-called “stat checker”. This type of champions have simple and less complex skills and rely on their high values. Many players find this style of play boring and outdated.
His skills felt bad and not coordinated. The playing style around his ghuls was frustrating for beginners due to the automatic attack behavior. If a ghul attacked the wrong opponent, the player could not redirect it.
The popularity (via LeagueOfgraphs.com) was approx. 1 %. It is determined by the picking, ban and winrates. Some players suspected that Riot did not know how to take Yorick balances, so they banished him from the free rotation of the champions.
Another champion was also banished, but not from the free rotation, but from the entire game.
Yorick appeared at a time when Riot regularly released new Champions. Due to this large amount of new champs, some of them could not be worked out properly and later got a big re -work.
What became of Yorick? With Yorick’s big re -recovery in 2016, his skills and optics were completely revised. He was allowed to keep his ghule, but Yorick was no longer born by this. With one of the new skills, the Ghule can attack selected opponents. Yorick is protected by his Ultimate by the mistress of the fog and became one of the best split pusher in the game.
Yorick is still a good 1V1 champion, but it is easier to defeat and has to use his skills carefully. His new unique playing style has increased his popularity.
Riot New Champions rarely publishes today. These are often interesting and offer unique play styles. However, the latest magician Mel was in some criticism for the release: LOL brings new champion Mel, but the players are blaspheming about the “magician for babies”
