“Nobody talks about it” – Players used to ignore dungeons, but now they’re supposed to be really good

Vessel of Hatred has brought a lot of new content to Diablo 4 – including runes, mercenaries and a new area. However, players praise a feature that apparently surprised them: the normal new dungeons.

With Season 6 and Vessel of Hatred, Diablo 4 has received a major overhaul. Blizzard has abolished the often criticized world levels and introduced new difficulty levels. The new max level is 60 and the paragon points are separate from it.

The expansion also brought a new area, Nahantu, into the game – including new dungeons. This is exactly what a player praises in his post on Reddit and says: They feel much better than the “old” dungeons. He is surprised that no one is talking about it.

Why have the dungeons been annoying since release? A year ago, the tenor was that many players completely ignored the dungeons because they were simply too boring and hardly provided any advantages. They were also no longer suitable for leveling at certain levels because the levels were then at or even below the level of the player character.

Things are different with the new difficulty levels – the monster levels are always based on the respective level. In addition, Nahantu brings a breath of fresh air to the map and 20 new dungeons.

Exploration without a destination = more fun

Why are the dungeons better? The user Hctaz went through some new dungeons for region progression. He noticed how much better the new dungeons are structured, he writes on Reddit. He calls it “the best (?) new feature that no one is talking about.” The structure is better, but also the simple goal that you have as a player in the dungeon: explore the place and kill the boss.

Other dungeons are more monotonous and feel far removed from what people loved about dungeon crawling, he writes in the post. The tasks in other dungeons are often annoying – such as “Loot corpses to find keys.”

Numerous users discuss the topic in the comments. Overall, the dungeons in Nahantu seem to be well received. The players praise the following aspects:

  • The simple goal of exploring the dungeon and killing the boss feels like a massive upgrade over the other tasks.
  • It generally feels better to be able to simply explore without a predetermined goal.
  • There are now additional tasks, but they are optional and offer more loot.
  • The new dungeons feel better because they are more open and have fewer dead ends. You won’t be “punished” if you choose the wrong path. Especially in dungeons with goals like “Find Item XY” you often have to run back through half the dungeon.
  • The monster density is higher in the new dungeons.
  • Individual dungeons in Nahantu are huge, but it’s not annoying to spend time in them because exploring them is fun.
  • Players will be surprised by the random, hidden tasks they discover in the dungeons. For example, they find animus even though collecting it isn’t a goal at all, but then they realize that it can be used to open a kind of treasure room.
  • “Diablo 4 finds its own style”

What else do players praise about the new features? The comments also praise the new bases and especially the base in the southeast of Nahantu. There is a part of the map that is hidden until you conquer the base. The user wtfakakali praises the new option to mark a waypoint as a favorite.

In another post on Reddit, Kal0dan praises the direction Diablo 4 is heading – the fighting is fun, the items are interesting and there are mercenaries. It’s nice to find your own style of play on the new difficulty levels, he notes. The game is slowly finding its own style and the foundation is now very solid.

He also praises the new group search tool: “I jump into groups that are advertised […]. It’s fun to figure out how I can use my skills to complement what the other players are doing.” The Group Finder gives you the opportunity to create a party in Diablo 4 or find a suitable party for you. The feature is suitable for endgame activities on the difficulty level of your choice, but also for boss runs, exploring or dungeons.
