Armor is a new action film starring Sylvester Stallone. However, the legendary action star can’t lift the flick out of mediocrity when it comes to critics.
What film is it about? In the upcoming action film “Armor,” Sylvester Stallone plays the villain Rook, who is targeting a cash-in-transit truck. Its driver James (Jason Patric) is not only fighting for his life, but also that of his son Casey (Josh Wiggins), who is driving the armored car with him.
Armor will be shown in Germany from February 7, 2025, but not in cinemas, but as a stream as well as on DVD and Blu-ray. That’s perhaps for the better, because the film is currently being criticized in a similar way to the Borderlands film, which landed a negative record on Metacritic.
You can get your own impression of Armor in the English-language trailer:
Armor fails with viewers and critics
What do the critics say? Armor currently has a sobering 0% on Rotten Tomatoes – none of the 20 critics have recommended the action flick so far. Erik Childress of the Movie Madness podcast scoffs: “Stallone reportedly shot his part in just one day. The rest of the film feels like it was shot on the second day.”
Glenn Kenny from RogerEbert.com says: Even with the relatively short running time of 89 minutes, the film still feels stretched out.
Critics mostly agree that Armor is a mediocre action film that lacks the special ideas and creativity to stand out from the crowd.
And the viewers? The audience score is still pending, as the “Popcorn Meter” requires at least 50 ratings. However, the fact that not 50 viewers have written a review since the US cinema release on November 22, 2024 gives little hope.
Armor also gets a lukewarm reception on IMDb with a 3.5 out of 10. The film was apparently particularly poorly received in Canada, where not one person gave it a 9 or 10 rating. In the USA there were at least 30.
So at the moment it doesn’t look like Armor will be one of those films that fails with the critics but achieves real cult status with viewers.
Things are said to not have been going smoothly behind the scenes at Armor either. You can find out more about this from our colleagues at Filmstarts.
Is everything bad? In fact, it currently doesn’t look as if the film would be particularly recommended even for die-hard fans of “Sly”. For many people the film is simply too long-winded. You can’t understand why Sylvester Stallone is in this – especially after the really good gangster series Tulsa King.
We’ll probably find out in February how many people will ultimately give Armor a chance. However, at the moment it doesn’t look as if Sylvester Stallone could save the action flick.
