Series fans can’t get enough of some couples. Just think of “Caryl” from The Walking Dead or “Chenford” from The Rookie. In the second half of the 6th season of Cobra Kai on Netflix there was now a complete one unexpected couple formationwhich may also have cult potential: Kimzen.
Spoilers for Cobra Kai season 6 on Netflix: This refers to the South Korean Kim Da-Eun (Alicia Hannah-Kim) and Daniel-san’s old rival Chozen (Yuji Okumoto) from Japan. In the episode A Flight with Obstacles (6×08), a fight between the martial arts professionals suddenly ended with a smooch.
Kimzen is a Cobra Kai couple that no one expected
As actress Alicia Hannah-Kim revealed in an interview with Deadline, she was initially completely surprised by the emerging Cobra Kai romance when showrunner Hayden Schlossberg told her about it:
I didn’t see that coming at all. The ultimate enemies-become-lovers twist. I was curious as to how this might work because it never occurred to me. Then when I saw Yuji we started laughing and I knew it would be super fun to work out this dynamic together. I think they’re cute together. They’re both very secretive people, so it’s very sexy when they explode and kiss in the middle of the fight.
Chozen appeared in the 80s as Daniel-san’s adversary in Karate Kid 2 and later became a stoic ally. Da-Eun was introduced in Season 5 of Cobra Kai as the granddaughter of South Korean martial arts master Kim. The style and philosophy of the aggressive Cobra Kai fighting school go back to his teachings.
When will the Cobra Kai final season continue on Netflix?
The 6th and final season of Cobra Kai is divided into three parts. Part 2 just went online last week, part 3 will wait until next year. On February 13, 2025 then the time has come. At the same time, a new Karate Kid film is being worked on, in which Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio will appear as senseis.
