Nobody needs a 14 minute longer version but it comes anyway

Did anyone really sit in the cinema watching Jurassic World 3: A New Age and think: I wish this movie was 14 minutes longer! Then please get in touch here in the comments. The finale of the Dino trilogy with Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard already covered 146 minutes in the theatrical version and regardless of whether you like the blockbuster or not: That’s a hefty length when it comes to mindful management of your own lifetime. Nevertheless, an extended edition of the dinosaur adventure will be released this month and there are now details about it.

The Extended Edition of Jurassic World: A New Age arrives on August 25th

In a press release, Universal published information about the alternative version of the blockbuster. So the longer version of A New Age offers:

  • 14 minutes of never-before-seen footage, including
  • an alternate beginning
  • more dinosaurs,
  • more action.
  • The alternate beginning could mean the prologue, but we should all say our prayers that the 14 minutes isn’t more locust content.

The new version appears as Jurassic World: A New Age Extended Edition in German stores on August 25th as 4K Ultra HD Disc, Blu-ray and as a digital version. In addition to the long version, the edition features creation extras and the short film Battle at Big Rock, which ranked higher than A New Age in our ranking of the best Jurassic films.

Also on the 25th comes the regular version on 4K disc, Blu-ray and DVD in the German home cinema (at Amazon *).

The dinosaur adventure is the longest Jurassic film even in the short version

Jurassic World 3 already holds the record for the series at 146 minutes. Here’s the length of the films again for comparison:

  • Jurassic Park – 128 minutes
  • Lost World: Jurassic Park – 129 minutes
  • Jurassic Park III – 92 minutes
  • Jurassic World – 124 minutes
  • Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom – 128 minutes
  • Jurassic World: A New Age – 146 minutes
  • Apparently, audiences weren’t put off by that (or by the terrible reviews). The dinosaurs recently overtook Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness at the box office, grossing over $960 million worldwide.
