No-plate speed camera – caught 460 drivers in 21 hours

No plate speed camera caught 460 drivers in 21 hours

Normally, it is relatively easy to avoid being caught by a speed camera, as there should always be a warning sign some distance before the camera.

If you pay enough attention, it is usually easy to slow down in time before the camera flashes. However, the requirement for a warning sign only applies to certain cameras.

Recently, a speed camera without a license plate caught a whopping 460 speeders in just 21 hours.

These speed cameras do not need a sign

The requirement for a warning sign only applies to the permanently mounted speed cameras, actually called traffic safety cameras, for which the Swedish Transport Administration is responsible.

In addition to the fixed cameras, however, the police also have their own cameras, which are mobile and can be exhibited in the places where they are estimated to do the most good.

For these cameras, there is no requirement for a warning sign.

Took 460 drivers in 21 hours

Since the turn of the year, the police in Kalmar have set up a mobile speed camera at various locations around Ölandsbron, reports The barometer.

At one point, the camera managed to catch as many as 460 speeders in just 21 hours, which led to fines amounting to millions.

– My view is that many people ignore the 70-mile stretch. It is absolutely justified that there are 70 there, considering that there are entrances and exits where many cars must merge, says the traffic police Henric Delaryd to the Barometer.

There are currently 15 mobile speed cameras throughout Sweden, but the number looks set to increase in the coming years.

In October last year, Carup reported that the police plan that there will soon be more mobile speed cameras in Sweden. For example, the police in Falun have announced that they plan to purchase mobile speed cameras.
