16:32 – Nakamura takes up Aznavour, the controversy rekindled?
After the many criticisms that have circulated for months around Emmanuel Macron’s choice to have Aya Nakamura sing at the opening of the Olympic Games, the official announcement of her presence could once again rekindle the embers. As a reminder, last March, the identity collective Les Natifs, which describes itself as “proud and rooted young Parisians”, had installed a banner in Paris, on which was written: “There’s no way Aya. This is Paris, not the Bamako market.”
To which Aya Nakamura herself responded on social media, coming out of her reserve: “You can be racist but not deaf. That’s what hurts you! I’m becoming a number 1 state subject in debates etc. but what do I really owe you? Kedal (sic)”. The controversy had reached the political sphere: “The violence of racist and sexist remarks against Aya Nakamura under the false pretext of not appreciating her artistically borders on national harassment against a young woman! And racism is not an opinion, it’s a crime”, wrote Marlène Schiappa, then Secretary of State for the Social and Solidarity Economy and Community Life.
